The ocean liner in this stormy painting appears to be a large steamer dating from the first half of the 20th century, judging from the two tall funnels (stacks) and superstructure. These funnels appear to be white with black tops. This color configuration matches the funnel colors for a Peruvian company called Corporacion (or Compania) Peruana de Vapores, but without flags it's difficult to be sure.
The painting is signed simply “E.H.” in the lower center of the painting. The artist is likely self taught. Nothing about this artist, including his or her name has yet been identified.
